There is life......

........after 50!! So say the participants on my Fresh Steps course today.

Fresh Steps is a new development programme for older workers. Today the participants highlighted that one of the most valuable things has been getting together with others in the same age group to share their hopes and fears.  This has resulted in them feeling less isolated and happier that they are not the only 50-odd year old who might be worrying that their hair/teeth will fall out, the mirror lies every morning and that they will never learn which remote control drives which device.

It really underlines the benefit of sharing all those worrisome things that you carry around with you, believing that you are the only person in the whole wide world who could possibly be worried about this and that; will my teenage son still love me if I mend his jeans with black thread; where can i find a bra that actually fits; what will happen when the mower blade goes blunt; are pumpkin or sunflower seeds best to sprinkle on your porridge; how far does the car actually go on reserve; what if i never get to like horlicks?

Carrying all of these around uses up energy that you could be directing into more positive projects. So have a "Worry Party". Get some of your close friends over for coffee or chardonnay and all share at least one worry that you have. As soon as you share it you'll reduce its influence on you and with all that positive energy helping you it will soon be fixed and just a distant memory.

What are you worrying about today?  Take the first step towards fixing it now.
